Downturn’ is a modern version of the Old Testament Book of Job which seeks to examine why bad things happen to good people. It is set among the debris of the global financial downturn and explores questions of economic and political justice as well as theological questions about the nature of evil and suffering. It examines suffering through various conversations utilising the perspective of an evangelical preacher, a worldly wise business colleague, a straight talking partner in adversity, a cynical lawyer and a new age therapist.
The story spans two continents and contrasting lifestyles and stories, yet offers the reader no simple answers, preferring to leave big questions open for further thought and discovery.
